Rhode Island Drug Addiction Treatment Centers and Programs

The smallest state of the Union, Rhode Island, is not particularly one known to the rest of the country for drug abuse. Although it may not be one of the biggest states or be a transshipment state, there are unfortunately plenty of drugs for people who are looking for them. There is no mystery that this small state is among the top for alcohol abuse, as well as illicit substance abuse. This is a sad fact, considering that many of the citizens of the state have an uphill battle to face when it comes to battling their addictions. And with the admission rates for treatment centers double the national average in Rhode Island; many people have taken the first steps up the hill.

The use of marijuana is a serious problem in this state, especially considering most of the people who use it are at a young age. Many people feel as if it is not a dangerous drug, as it is not known to be as habit-forming in many cases. This is not true. Furthermore, in the case of the younger population, more than half of the high school senior population has tried the drug. And 35% of high school seniors in Rhode Island have tried marijuana. This enhances the need for parents to warn their children about the risk associated with marijuana abuse, as many students have found that this drug is not that big of a risk.

Rhode Island gets their drugs from the state of Canada and New York, which is just a small trip through Connecticut. The drug of choice in the state is cocaine, a very powerful drug indeed. Cocaine abuse is a serious problem in this state. What sets the cocaine apart from the offerings in many states is that here the drug is known to be a lot more potent, normally found to be 70-90% pure. This comes as something that is unsettling in the very least, considering that the higher the potency, the greater the risk of addiction.

Heroin is another serious problem in Rhode Island; such is the case with most northeastern states. The drug is widespread, and is readily accessible. This is probably one of the most destructive drugs in history, and the addiction associated with it is without parallel.

Luckily for citizens of Rhode Island, there are many treatment options for those who wish to pursue it. In the state, there are over 50 different treatment centers for a person to try to become clean. Although many of them have done admirably, each one is not exactly like the other, in their approach. Since most people enter drug treatment programs associated with the use of heroin, it is noteworthy to state that only 19 facilities and 21 programs offered bupreorphine as a way to deal with withdrawals. Also, there is also the fact that some of these programs may not have the staff that is necessary for amazing treatment. For those suffering from abuse, they should weigh their options heavily, and seek adequate help.
