North Carolina is a state where there are many drug operations flowing through the state, as it is known as transshipment state. While there are various avenues where a person can get their fix, especially with marijuana, there are more serious issues when it comes to drug abuse. There is not a drug that is more important to the state of North Carolina than cocaine, which makes up of more than 30% of the people who enter treatment programs for dependency of this drug. This figure makes the state with some of the highest numbers admitted into various treatment programs in the country. But cocaine is not alone in the most used substance in the state, and although it may not be illicit, the dangers of this drug are undeniable.
The abuse of opiates is another concern for the people of North Carolina, mostly of the variety of prescription drugs, such as Xanax. The number of people using these drugs are not limited by age, which range from high school students experimenting with the drug, or even older people who may have been using it for a legitimate reason. Unfortunately, after extended use, they both usually end up becoming daily habits, and become addiction. Unfortunately in this state, it is a rising number of people who are finding out that this drug is no laughing matter, and should be addressed as soon as possible.
The abuse of alcohol is another problem in the state, as many people would expect. The trouble with alcohol, as shown, is that it lowers the inhibitions of people who use it. And since that is true, the likelihood of a person partaking in recreational use of another drug is likely. And what people may not think will harm them at that time, they are taking steps to addiction, a winding road that will more than likely lead in collapse. Luckily, for these people who do experience this in the state of North Carolina, there are more than 360 drug treatment programs that have proven results. With these various options, there is potentially recover for anyone who seek out these options. With half of the state being private non-profit, and the other half being private for-profit, there is equal help for whomever, regardless.
One thing to point out is that many people may find that they will need residential care for addiction that may be more intense, in which the state offers about 60 treatment programs to combat this. And since all of these programs may not be created the same way, and have varying protocols, it is advisable that they be looked into to see if they will really work for the person. For instance, if a person may have a dependency to opiates, another rising number in the state, they should know that there are only about 30 programs that offer such treatment.
