New Mexico is one of the states that are essentially one of the worst to live for the person suffering from drug abuse. According to the DEA, it is one of the states that are considered a frontline state for the war on drugs, given its proximity to the country of Mexico. With most of the southern area of the state being desert and numerous roads, it provides accessibility for the drug cartels to deliver these products easily to the United States. With that said, it is no mystery why the state is the 4th most violent in the country. Marijuana, like many states, is the most commonly abused drug in the state. T his is because of the perceived risk that it is not much of a big deal, even though studies show that 70% of drug users have started with the drug.
Although New Mexico is known for being one with many drugs available, in terms of abuse, the actual mostly abused substance is alcohol. This figure is one taken from people who are getting treatment from the dangers of alcohol, which were a reported 34% in the year 2006. This figure is one that is not suspected out of the state where many of the country’s drugs go through, although they do have very many other shocking figures that are noticeable when it comes to the state of New Mexico. One of the most shocking experiences would be the fact that the state has a big problem with teen drug addiction.
This state is one that has some of the worst problems with abuse when it comes to the age demographic 12-17. At the very least, this comes as something that is unsettling, especially when it is one of the top states for cocaine abuse in children. It is one thing to have children doing cocaine, but it is downright scary to be near the top of the list. Fortunately, the state of New Mexico has drug treatment programs that can assist these people in the time of need, pointing them towards a bright future. One of the best things that a parent can do is to teach them about the dangers that is substance abuse.
New Mexico has about 120 facilities that cater to those with some kind of addiction problem, and many of these have produced favorable results when it comes to treating this disease. Essentially, there is enough treatment program for every citizen that suffers from substance abuse problems, and there are about 30 tribal solutions for the drug abuser as well.
One thing to consider when seeking out adequate help in addiction is to weigh their options fully. With there being so many programs and facilities to choose from, it can make a person feel overwhelmed when finding what would be right for them. Above all, they should feel comfortable with the staff and their expertise, whether it is an outpatient or residential care. This is important, because without having certified staff, there can be no recovery.
