New Jersey is a state plagued with drug abuse, being with close ties to New York, as well as heavy traffic from there to other areas of the northeast. This creates for critical problems with the state, as it is a target for many drug traffickers who peddle their wares to the area, making this a major transshipment zone to the “Crossroads to the East.” In this state, basically every mainstream drug is being abused, with the exception of uninhibited methamphetamine abuse. Cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, and especially heroin are the areas of concern.
In all of the drugs that are abused, there is only as widespread as heroin abuse, which accounted for more than 40% of admissions just a few years ago. Where it gets shocking is when the figure for admissions for alcohol, which is just over 17%. This leaves the rest to pharmaceutical drugs, marijuana, and cocaine. One of the most unsettling issues is the fact that New Jersey is the leader in pharmaceutical companies that produce and distribute pills, which are some of the most commonly abused, those being Xanax and OxyContin. This creates an even more accessible atmosphere when it comes to opiates, which is quite possibly the most addicting substance known to man.
In efforts to combat these growing concerns of prevalent drug use, New Jersey has about 350 drug treatment centers aimed at getting people to kick their old habits and once again, become upstanding citizens. For a state as small as this, this number is unusually high.
Although the addiction to heroin is one that has a death grip on the state, there is another that still has not let go of theirs. This is cocaine, which is a very large business in the state. Cocaine in New Jersey has always been of the biggest concerns, and the amount of cocaine in that state is one of the highest in the country. Last year, the DEA seized more than 1,500 kilograms of the drug. With its ties directly to South America, this provides a landscape where the cocaine user can get their fix at will.
But it does not have to happen. With so many drug treatment centers available in New Jersey, there is no excuse why people have to abuse these dangerous drugs. With some of the most state funding of any around the country, a whopping 60%, the addict can take a proactive approach in their lives and bring down the New Jersey Devil in their lives and finally become clean.
It is not an easy road, but it is one of the best choices that a person can make in their lives, the road to recovery. There are a plethora of choices that can be made when it comes to finding adequate care, whether it is outpatient or residential services that are needed. With over 60 residential programs available, there is enough care for anyone who needs it. There does not need to be another addict on the streets, especially if there are programs that want to help.
