Although Minnesota is not known for rampant drug abuse, there are still many problems to be addressed when it comes to alcohol abuse. The state is now to be known to be ranked within the top ten of states that abuse alcohol, usually with disregard for age. When dealing with alcohol abuse, it is something that is kind of unique than that of abusing illicit drugs, because it is a legal substance. Since all that is needed to procure alcohol is the age of consent and a driver’s license stating so, it can create a huge problem if it is not consumed in moderation. But since there are a growing number of alcoholics and other substance abusers, the need for satisfactory assistance is necessary.
Alcohol abuse is common in the state of Minnesota, and there have been conclusive studies that coincide with the statement. In this state, a poll conducted that more than 30% of college students exhibit the signs of alcohol abuse, a shocking number considering that many of them are just past the legal age to even purchase it legally. This contributes to a large amount of people admitted into treatment programs, where 28% of patients cited problems with alcohol.
Secondly, the state is also plagued with marijuana abuse, which is also true for many different states. It is readily available in many strands, whether it is common or a higher grade, as seen in indoor growing houses. Quite possibly, the hugest problem surrounding the abuse would have to be that many people do not think that it is a big deal. This is a sentiment that many drug treatment programs would like to refute, because repeated use does grow into addiction. There is also the effect that it usually does lead to drugs that are stronger, especially considering the associations the marijuana smoker will make in their lives. Although it may not happen overnight, the marijuana smoker is surely to meet someone who will try to influence them of the benefits of another drug that they may not have experimented with. And although it may not happen in every case, most people who regularly use other illicit substances started out with marijuana.
Luckily, with there being a healthy amount of drug treatment programs in the state of Minnesota, people can get the help that they need to controlling their issues and effectively get back to the live that they deserve. With over 260 available treatment centers within the state, every person with a substance abuse problem will find something that they need for a productive life. Although not all of these centers are not the same, people who enter the program with the willingness to succeed will more than likely have great results.
The most important thing about finding the program that works is to do a little research before committing, because recovery should be taken seriously. A person will have to feel comfortable with most aspects of the program for it to work, and the staff should be qualified to handle the problems of each individual who enters the doors.
