Michigan is one of the most frightening states to think about when people are considering drug abuse, or heavy alcohol consumption on a daily basis. Not only is it one of the most dangerous states to live in, there is rampant substance abuse 1 out of every 10 of the residents who live in the state. This astounding number led to the state getting over 70,000 people the treatment that they need, as they felt inclined to try to correct the harrowing situation. This creates problems on many levels, as local law enforcement is more centered on the various violent crimes than the crimes that involve drug distribution. Although in many cases these things go hand in hand, it is not something that is conducive to the drug addict becoming clean.

There is another shocking revelation to consider. While Michigan ranks extremely high on the scale when it comes to illicit substance and alcohol abuse, and that figure is even on the rise. What are not increasing are the people who are seeking help for the problems that they have acquired. Sadly, this is represented in the crime rates of the state of Michigan, which is undoubtedly one of the highest of any state of the Union. Many of these are drug related crimes, and it shows no signs of stopping, especially considering the staggering increase of drug-related crime rates of the past couple of years.

These numbers are dramatically different than other states, which makes it no surprise that they are ranked at a level unlike many other states. With 305 kilograms of cocaine and about 4,500 kilograms of marijuana seized from the state last year, the state government is imploring people to take control of their lives and kick the habit. Not only is it a problem on the society, it is a problem in many communities, even down to the individual addict. One of the biggest problems on the rise is the opiate use, those that are not heroin. The DEA reports that prescriptions are up for these drugs 31% from last year, a troubling figure, especially considering that these are highly addictive drugs.

Luckily, the state of Michigan has a plethora of drug treatment programs that should be used by anyone who feels as if they have suspected drug abuse. With more than 70% of these facilities receiving government funding, there are adequate treatment solutions for everyone that see feel as if they may have a problem. It should be stated that although there are over 500 of these programs, most of them have varying degrees of success in their methods. With this stated, there should be adequate research done before anyone commits to any of these programs.

Finding treatment that works for the addict is of paramount concern, as everyone would like to have a successful life, which is nearly impossible if there is any kind of substance abuse in their lives. For the person who really wants the help, explore their options, even if it means having to leave the immediate area to do so.
