In the state of Kansas, there are many problems when it comes to substance abuse. Like many states in the Midwest, there is widespread alcohol abuse, which is shockingly considered the norm in most states in the area. Although this is the truth, the heavy consumption of alcohol in most cases leads to the rise of other drugs. And it is not just marijuana, but all across the board, there has been an increase in all of the major drugs in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, this is a trend that we are seeing all too often, and the culprits are usually younger people. In this state, these numbers are well above the national average. But what something that this western state has in common with many of the other states of the Union is the scourge known as meth.
Meth abuse has become one of the biggest fights that local law enforcement has to battle, especially considering the large increase for demand and the addictive personality of the substance. This drug is readily available, and many of the state’s younger communities are taking up in the manufacturing and distributing of this drug. While most of it comes from Mexican drug traffickers that control most of the product, it is still grown locally. This war on the production of this drug has been fought by the DEA for years, and last year they netted nearly 37 kilograms of contraband.

There are still other dangers facing the streets of Kansas, like many others, and the demons are marijuana and cocaine abuse. Just last year 100 kilograms of cocaine was taken off of the streets, as well as more than 1,500 kilograms of marijuana. Although this is a sufficient number of illicit drugs removed from the street, rehabilitation centers still play a vital role in converting addicts to functional members of society.

60% of people in the 236 treatment centers are there with an addiction to marijuana. Although this drug is considered “not-a-big-deal” in some circles, it is still one of the most addictive drugs in the world. Some people say that can be considered more addictive than even cocaine. For people suffering from any kind of addiction, with options such so prevalent, it is advisable that they genuinely seek help from what is ailing them. Although it can never be too late for a person to receive help, the longer that a person waits, the harder that it will be to achieve.

One of the biggest problems facing Kansas drug treatment programs is the fact that there are not as many facilities that help against opiates. This kind of treatment takes a certain kind of specialist, and in the state, there are only 5 different centers that will help against the effects of prescription pills or heroin. In these cases, they may be the need to even consult the aid of professionals outside of the state, if the desired patient cannot get into one of the centers where this help is given.
