There are not many states when it comes to talking about drug abuse when it comes to Iowa. The state provides very interesting subject matter when looking over the statistics compared to the rest of the United States. It ranks well below the rest of the country when it comes to illicit substances, but on the flip side, it’s twice over the national average. This is directly correlated to the trafficking of marijuana and methamphetamine, which are quickly becoming more of a problem for the residents in the state. What makes matters worse is that Iowa is another state where marijuana is grown and cultivated locally, and even though this is becoming common practice in other states, this is one in particular whose landscape promotes such activity.

The marijuana abuse problem is large; the DEA seized 646 kilograms of the drug last year. And with people growing in their own areas, usually rural, there is no question that there is rampant abuse. Also, on the front of home manufacturing, there is also the methamphetamine. Last year, the DEA seized 21 kilograms of the deadly drug, a number which is sure to grow without people admitting themselves into Iowan treatment centers. The saddest thing about these drugs is that they are both in the cities and the countryside of the state, presenting a statewide problem to be addressed.

Cocaine abuse in Iowa is also something to be addressed. In the state, the drug is readily available, and comes in the two standard forms of the drug. Either as powdered cocaine or crack, these drugs are banes on the community in Iowa. By coming by way of Chicago or the state of California, the use of cocaine in the state is prevalent.
A drug treatment program is the best way to combat this drug, at the individual level. In the state, there are more than 125 facilities that are available for the person to break the cycle. In terms of getting help, especially from something debilitating such as methamphetamine, the potential patient should be aware that they will need extensive help in getting their lives back on track. Luckily in the state, there are many qualified facilities that can be used that can do just this. But with this stated, on the other hand, there are still many of them that will not produce the results that certain clients may need. This is very important, as this is the person’s livelihood on the line.

In selecting the proper drug treatment program, as with all of them, they need to be taken seriously. Since the drug epidemic usually targets younger kids, the importance of a program is very important, as the abuse of younger people in the drug culture rises every day. The stresses the need for parents to know their enemy, and being able to educate their children in the perils of drug use. And if their kids do fall victim to them, then proper ways to get the help that they deserve.
