In many of the states in the Union, the state of Illinois has had a longstanding tradition with drugs and violence. With one of the nation’s largest and most important cities, Chicago, this is not something that comes as much of a surprise. This city is one that is known to import a lot of drugs to be distributed to other areas, and has led to cataclysmic levels of drug abuse. Unfortunately, in the state of Illinois, most of every drug is readily available. The use of nearly every mainstream drug, such as: heroin, cocaine, and marijuana are all on the rise. This is definitely true in the more urban areas of the state, especially Chicago and their cocaine abuse.
The use of all of these drugs result in violence, which people consider is usually an inner-city problem. The DEA reports that the areas inside of the city limits are actually declining in violence, while the suburban areas are seeing an increase. This can be directly correlated to the accessibility of drugs, especially marijuana. Marijuana abuse is a huge problem in the state of Illinois, and the DEA seized over 14,250 kilograms of the drug just last year. The state also touts unusually high levels in other drugs, especially in cocaine and heroin. Cocaine seizures last year contained some of the most innovative methods made by law enforcement, which is a testament of how bad the problem is in the state. And as far as the heroin problem is concerned, the Chicago area is one that is unique because of the different groups that supply the state with its heroin fix.
Unfortunately, the state of Illinois is not on known for battling the newest epidemic in drug abuse. Pharmaceutical drug use is one that is on the rise, and there are not very many drug treatment programs that handle can handle the opiate addiction problem, or even the heroin problem. It takes a special chemical to be able to combat the withdrawals from opiate addiction, and the state isn’t particularly known for doctors that are qualified.
With all of the lucrative methods in drug trafficking in the state, there is dire need for a drug treatment program in the state of Chicago. Luckily, the citizens of the state are fighting back to take their state back from the various drugs tearing down their communities. With over 580 treatment facilities in the state, there are very many options for the drug abuser to choose from when looking for adequate help. Although only about half of these facilities receive any funding at local government levels, there are still many great problems for the person with the disease of addiction. With this said, the person should be warned that they are not all the same type of treatment center, and thorough research will need to be done for people who need the help.
For those with addiction, there is great need for them to get the help that they deserve. While it may be possible to kick the habit on their own, most people will require specialists to guide them to “getting clean.”
