Meth Abuse

There are many debilitating drugs in the country, as we are known to be the largest drug consumer in the world. With this being evident, it is no wonder why so many people enter treatment facilities each year for a myriad different reasons. What was known to be generally because of alcohol and marijuana, it is taken the form of an even scarier reason, meth abuse. Methamphetamines are a class of anphetamines, and is generally known for it being very cheap to buy. On top of this fact it is also one known to be one of the most addivitve substances that we have in our country.

Mostly a problem for Southern and Western states of the country, it is quickly starting to branch outward, thrusting the country into an epidemic. According to a national survey, it is reported that about 1.3 million Americans are current users of this drug. And although the numbers seem to be one the decline, there is still a very large demand for the drug, as Mexican cartels ship it northward into the United States daily. This is a very large number, especially considering how addictive this drug is, and the ravaging effects that it has on the brain. Another frightening number is to consider the youth who have gotten their hands on this powerful drug.

Meth abuse is something that seems to start earlier and earlier in this country, as many kids are finding out that this a drug that they love to do at parties, and it is even replacing the “club drugs,” such as ecstasy. It enables them to party for much longer periods of time without rest, at the expense of their bodies. And since it is a cheap and popular drug, many teenagers can easily obtain methamphetamines. Of about 157,000 people who said that they have tried meth, the average age of people were 19 years of age.

This is a serious problem, especially considering that most of the people who use the drug are barely over the age of consent. And since they are so young, it is not uncommon that they have even younger friends, and it is only a matter of time before it gets into their hands. One of the best things that a parent can do is to educate their children of the danger of meth abuse, and provide them resources to exhaust if they feel as if they are curious in trying the drug. With the drug being considered the main concern in 44 different states, it is likely that there are a growing number of avenues where the drug can be obtained.

Seeking treatment for meth is the most important thing for everyone who has tried the drug even just once. Since it is very addictive, the proper measures must be taken if they want to make sure that it does not turn into a worse addiction. While it may not be one of the easiest things to do when it comes to abuse, it is necessary for anyone who wants to lead a full and productive life.
